James Gunn and Peter Safran have confirmed that The Brave and the Bold will introduce a new Batman to the DC Universe (DCU), definitively excluding Robert Pattinson.

During a DC Studios presentation, Safran and Gunn clarified that Pattinson's Batman remains exclusive to Matt Reeves' "The Batman Epic Crime Saga." Gunn stated unequivocally, "It's certainly not the plan. No." Safran elaborated, emphasizing the necessity of introducing a new Batman into the DCU, stating, "That's imperative. And so that's the plan with The Brave and the Bold."

Earlier speculation regarding Pattinson's potential DCU-wide role stemmed from Reeves' ambiguous comments earlier this year. Reeves acknowledged the possibility but prioritized completing his own saga, emphasizing collaboration with Gunn and Safran to achieve this. He highlighted his focus on The Batman Part 2, stating, "What the future brings? I can’t really tell you."

Confirmed DCU Projects

11 ImagesSafran expressed enthusiasm for Reeves' vision for The Batman Part 2, noting its encouraging progress despite a script yet to be finalized.

The Brave and the Bold is currently in active development, with Gunn and Safran actively shaping the script. The directorial involvement of Andy Muschietti remains uncertain, pending script completion and assessment of its suitability for his style. Further announcements regarding The Brave and the Bold are promised soon.

The delayed release of The Batman Part 2 to October 1, 2027, raises questions about The Brave and the Bold's release window. Safran only confirmed a Batman film for October 2027.

A brief, silhouetted appearance of Batman in Creature Commandos Episode 6, confirmed his pre-existing presence and established recognition within the DCU, eliminating the need for an origin story. Gunn's comments to Rotten Tomatoes TV clarified the deliberate ambiguity of the depiction.

Gunn hinted at a future team-up between this DCU Batman and Superman, expressing his deep affection for the character and promising exciting developments. He stated, "This is the DCU Batman...He's the most popular superhero in the world and I can't wait for people to see more of him, along with Superman, and together.”
