Capcom's Past IP Revivals Will Continue

In a December 13th press release announcing new installments of Onimusha and Okami, Capcom confirmed their commitment to breathing new life into their back catalog. The goal is to deliver high-quality experiences for players.

Capcom stated their intention to "re-activate dormant IPs that haven’t had a new title launch recently," aiming to "further enhance corporate value by leveraging its rich library of content...to continuously produce highly efficient, high-quality titles."

Alongside these revivals, Capcom is also developing Monster Hunter Wilds and Capcom Fighting Collection 2, both expected in 2025. This doesn't mean new IPs are being neglected; recent releases include Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess and Exoprimal.

Capcom's "Super Elections" Offer Clues to Future Titles

Capcom's Past IP Revivals Will Continue

Capcom's February 2024 "Super Elections" allowed fans to vote for their most desired character returns and sequels. The results revealed strong demand for sequels and remakes of Dino Crisis, Darkstalkers, Onimusha, and Breath of Fire.

Dino Crisis and Darkstalkers have been largely dormant for decades, with their last entries released in 1997 and 2003, respectively. Breath of Fire 6, an online RPG launched in July 2016, shut down in September 2017. These franchises represent significant potential for revival.

While Capcom remains discreet about their future plans, the "Super Elections" results provide valuable insight into which dormant IPs might be prioritized, particularly given the strong showing of Onimusha and Okami in the voting.
