Call of Duty: Warzone Experiencing Lobby Crashing Issue

Summary

  • Call of Duty: Warzone players are experiencing game freezes and crashes during loading screens.
  • This is resulting in unfair in-game penalties for some players.
  • Developers are actively working on a permanent solution.

Call of Duty: Warzone players experiencing frustrating lobby crashes can breathe a sigh of relief. Reports of games freezing or crashing during loading screens, sometimes leading to undeserved penalties, prompted swift action. While a complete fix is still underway, Warzone implemented a temporary measure to prevent penalties for players affected by this glitch.

2024 was a significant year for the Call of Duty franchise, but Raven Software faced numerous challenges. Late December saw a temporary Warzone matchmaking outage due to an accidental update, and ongoing issues with cheating and bugs plagued the game. Now, a new year brings a new frustrating problem.

Warzone players reported widespread game freezes and crashes during loading screens, prompting Raven Software to investigate on January 6th. Although the Trello bug tracker still lists the glitch as unresolved, developers implemented a crucial interim solution. A January 9th Twitter post announced the temporary suspension of Skill Rating penalties and timeouts for players disconnecting before joining Ranked matches. This addresses player outrage over unwarranted suspensions caused by the glitch.

Call of Duty: Warzone Developers Address the Lobby Crash Issue

Previously, players whose games crashed risked losing valuable SR points and facing temporary match bans. Ironically, Warzone players previously requested this early-leaving penalty, but its current implementation is highlighting unintended consequences due to bugs. Raven Software's temporary suspension aims to mitigate this—disconnections before a match starts will no longer result in penalties, while mid-match disconnections will still be subject to penalties.

While a permanent fix remains pending, the penalty suspension alleviates immediate concerns. However, lingering bugs persist even after a major January 2025 update, and any Ranked play disruption causes understandable frustration. The Call of Duty: Warzone team faces a significant workload addressing these issues, but hopefully, a permanent solution will arrive soon.
