Astartes 2 Resurrected with Teaser Trailer Despite Legal Troubles
Games Workshop's highly anticipated Warhammer 40,000 animation, Astartes 2, resurfaces with a stunning teaser trailer, captivating fans. However, a crucial detail emerges: the trailer showcases scenes not featured in the actual animation.
Astartes 2, a sequel to the acclaimed fan-made original by Syama Pedersen, has been shrouded in mystery. Its quality, rivaled only by Amazon's Space Marine 2 animation, significantly influenced the creation of Saber Interactive's successful Space Marine 2 game. Games Workshop eventually hired Pedersen to develop the sequel.
Years of silence fueled speculation about the project's cancellation. The recent January 29th teaser trailer, however, reveals a visually impressive scope, featuring intense melee and ranged combat, vehicle warfare, and even space battles. Various Space Marine chapters clash across diverse environments against Tyranids, Orks, and Tau.
Despite the hype, Games Workshop's Warhammer Community website clarifies that the teaser is a compilation of shots representing the characters' pasts, not actual footage from Astartes 2. The final scene hints at the narrative's direction, leaving fans to decipher the clues.
The lack of a disclaimer on the trailer itself is a potential issue, as viewers might reasonably assume the depicted scenes will appear in the final product. This omission could lead to disappointment when Astartes 2, launching exclusively on Warhammer+ in 2026, differs significantly from the teaser.
Despite this, the teaser sparks excitement and speculation. The final image suggests the characters' eventual involvement in an Inquisition-led Deathwatch Terminator squad. Space Marine 2 fans have expressed their desire for some of the teaser's elements, particularly the capes, to be incorporated into the game. Given Saber Interactive's ongoing updates, this remains a possibility.
