"Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List"
The latest addition to Ubisoft's expansive series of stealth-action open-world games, Assassin's Creed Shadows, has finally arrived. But how does it stack up against its predecessors? With over 30 games under the Assassin's Creed banner, we're focusing solely on the mainline entries, excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR games, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.
The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to embody his ancestor Altaïr. Fast forward to 2025, and we're now exploring 16th-century Japan through the eyes of Naoe and Yasuke. As the 14th installment in the core series, Assassin's Creed Shadows prompts us to reflect on where it fits within the franchise. I've crafted a personal tier list based on my enjoyment of each game, which you can view below:
Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, cherished for its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and vibrant characters, offering what I consider the quintessential AC experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin's Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, Valhalla might raise eyebrows, but I thoroughly enjoyed its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. Joining it is Unity, whose depiction of Paris during the French Revolution remains visually impressive even a decade on.
Disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla overly expansive, or think Assassin's Creed 2 is overrated? You have the opportunity to create your own tier list and compare your S, A, B, C, and D tiers with the IGN community.
