AMD Radeon RX 9070 GPUs Finally Get Official Release Window — but Still No Price

At CES 2025, AMD unveiled its next-generation graphics cards, the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT, part of the RDNA 4 series. Surprisingly, these cards were not featured during AMD's keynote, even though vendors were showcasing them on the show floor with specifications kept under wraps. Adding to the intrigue, David McAfee, AMD's VP & GM of Radeon Graphics and Ryzen CPUs, took to Twitter/X to announce that these cards will hit the market in March 2025.

"Radeon 9000 series hardware and software are looking great, and we are planning to have a wide assortment of cards available globally," McAfee stated. "Can’t wait for gamers to get their hands on the cards when they go on sale in March!"

While the launch month is set for March 2025, AMD has yet to reveal specific details such as specifications or pricing for the RX 9070 and 9070 XT. It's speculated that these GPUs will compete directly with Nvidia’s upcoming RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, set to launch in February, in terms of price and performance.

Interestingly, reports suggest that stock of the RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT has already reached retailers and is in the hands of reviewers and critics. The outlet eTeknix has confirmed receiving review samples of these upcoming graphics cards.

This unusual situation has led to speculation that AMD might have delayed the official launch to strategically counter Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and 5070 Ti, allowing direct comparisons between the new products. There's also speculation that pricing pressure from Nvidia may have influenced AMD's decision to delay the official release of the RX 9070 lineup.

With details about the new AMD graphics cards being scarce, the launch messaging for the RX 9070 lineup has been somewhat messy and confusing. A report from June 2024 highlighted Nvidia's dominance, holding 88% of the discrete GPU market, while AMD commands only 12%.

As no other company challenges Nvidia in the mid-range or high-end consumer graphics card market, AMD must strategically position its new products to make inroads into Nvidia's overwhelming market lead.
