Activision's Costly Call of Duty Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Crossover Has Some Players Saying Black Ops 6 Should Just Go Free-to-Play at This Point

Call of Duty's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover is sparking outrage among players due to its exorbitant cost. Unlocking all the themed items could cost players upwards of $90 in COD Points, leading to calls for Activision to make Black Ops 6 free-to-play.

Activision's Black Ops 6 Season 02 Reloaded, released February 20th, features a premium bundle for each of the four Turtles (Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael), each priced at 2,400 COD Points ($19.99). Acquiring the complete set thus requires a hefty $80 investment.

Adding insult to injury, a premium event pass costing 1,100 COD Points ($10) is also available, granting access to Splinter and other cosmetics. The free track offers limited rewards.

The community's frustration stems from the crossover's focus on purely cosmetic items with no impact on gameplay. Many argue that ignoring the crossover is feasible, yet the pricing remains a significant point of contention.

Reddit users voiced their anger, with one stating, “Activision casually glossing over the fact that they want you to pay $80+... DESPICABLE!” Others predict the introduction of seasonal premium event passes, lamenting the shift from free event rewards.

Black Ops 6's monetization strategy is under scrutiny. Beyond the base ($9.99) and premium ($29.99) battle passes, plus in-game store purchases, the premium event pass adds another layer of cost. This, combined with the game's $70 price tag, is seen as excessive.

Many players believe that the aggressive monetization, mirroring free-to-play titles like Fortnite, necessitates a shift to a free-to-play model for Black Ops 6 multiplayer. The current system, identical for both the paid Black Ops 6 and free Warzone, is viewed as unfair to Black Ops 6 players.

Despite the criticism, Activision and Microsoft will likely maintain their current strategy. Black Ops 6's record-breaking launch and sales figures demonstrate the franchise's continued financial success. The immense profitability is unlikely to prompt a change in monetization, despite player concerns.
