What is the Grid Method of Drawing?
The grid method is a time-honored technique that helps artists achieve accuracy and maintain correct proportions in their drawings. It involves dividing both the reference image and the drawing surface into a grid of equal squares. By focusing on one square at a time, artists can meticulously replicate detailed sections, ensuring the overall proportions of the drawing are spot-on.

How to Use GridArt
Here’s how to master the grid method of drawing with GridArt:
Select Your Reference Image: Choose the image you want to draw.
Create a Grid on the Reference Image: Overlay a grid of evenly spaced vertical and horizontal lines on your reference image. The grid can consist of any number of squares, typically 1-inch or 1-centimeter squares.
Create a Grid on Your Drawing Surface: Draw a corresponding grid on your drawing paper or canvas, ensuring the number of squares and their proportions match the reference image grid.
Transfer the Image: Focus on one square at a time, replicating the lines, shapes, and details from the reference image into the corresponding square on your drawing surface. This method ensures accurate proportions and placement within your drawing.
Erase the Grid (Optional): Once your drawing is complete, you may gently erase the grid lines if they are no longer needed.
