Since *Fields of Mistria* entered Early Access on Steam, the intriguing Deep Woods area has been tantalizingly marked on the town map. However, this mysterious location remained locked away until the game's significant March 2025 update. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to unlock the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus within *Fields of Mistria*.

Unlocking the Deep Woods is an adventure in itself. You'll need to break the Fire Seal and harness the power of the new Dragon’s Breath spell to burn away the vines blocking the entrance. To start, you must place four specific items on the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items can be found scattered between floors 50 and 59, but acquiring the Sealing Scroll requires teamwork with Juniper and Balor.

To help Balor obtain the Sealing Scroll, you need to leave the following items in the bin by his wagon:

  • x10 Silver Ingots
  • x10 Rubies
  • x10 Sapphires
  • x10 Emeralds

Once you've gathered these materials, speak with Balor again, and he'll inform you that the scroll will be ready the next day. After collecting the scroll, you can proceed to complete the offering at the altar.

Typically, breaking a magic seal in *Fields of Mistria* results in a farewell from the enigmatic Priestess of the mines and the unlocking of a new biome. However, this time, things take an unexpected turn. The Priestess warns you to flee before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. With your health waning, you'll call out for help, and Caldarus will appear in his human guise, quickly retreating to his temple in the Deep Woods to regain his strength.

Caldarus then directs you to find him at his temple, gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell. This potent offensive spell allows you to incinerate the vines blocking the Deep Woods entrance. It's not just useful for this area; you can use it to reveal other previously hidden parts of the map. To use it, simply select Dragon’s Breath from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the desired location. This action will permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other areas.

Once you've broken the Fire Seal, finding Caldarus is your next goal. He resides within his temple in the Deep Woods, located to the north of the Eastern Road on your map. Accessing this area requires the Dragon’s Breath spell. Caldarus' exact location will be marked on your map just like any other NPC. Head to the northeast corner of the Deep Woods to find him.

To reach the temple, enter the Deep Woods, turn right, and use your axe to remove the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you arrive at the temple, where Caldarus awaits.

After unlocking the Deep Woods, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to this area and visit Caldarus anytime. The cost is just 10 Essence, making it a convenient and time-saving option compared to traveling on foot or horseback.

And don't worry; you can still interact with Caldarus through his statue, even if it's just in spirit.
