Skate Expands Playtesting to Include Console Players

Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtesting for the Highly Anticipated "skate." Begins

Exciting news for console gamers! The long-awaited "skate." title, a fresh entry in the beloved Skate franchise, is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying early access since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for console players to experience a new Skate game in over a decade.

The last mainline Skate game, Skate 3, launched in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, EA seemingly put the franchise on indefinite hold, prioritizing other genres. However, persistent fan demand, notably the #Skate4 hashtag, finally led to the creation of a dedicated development team and the announcement of "skate." Initially slated for early access in 2025, this console playtest is a significant step towards that release.

Via the official "skate." Twitter account, Xbox and PlayStation users can now participate in the playtest through the "skate." Insider program (registration required). A short video featuring developers offered a glimpse into the development process, confirming expanded Black hairstyle options and playfully addressing the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement.

While specifics remain under wraps, EA has confirmed "skate." will be a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam. This city, still under development, draws inspiration from previous Skate game locations and real-world cities. While a map leaked in 2023, significant changes are likely. Fans can either join the playtest or patiently await the wider release.

Other Skate-Style Games to Enjoy in the Interim

While "skate." is targeted for early access in 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games are available to keep fans entertained until the official launch.
