NieR: Automata - How to Acquire Beast Hide Easily

NieR: Automata offers a wide array of weapons, allowing players to experiment with different weapon types across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon boasts multiple upgrade levels, extending their usefulness and enabling players to utilize most weapons throughout the entire game if desired.

Weapon upgrades are readily available at the Resistance Camp, although specific resources are required depending on the weapon. One crucial crafting material, Beast Hides, isn't readily obtained; this guide details efficient farming methods.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar. These creatures randomly appear in specific map areas, generally avoiding players and nearby robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from the black icons of machines. Farming wildlife is less straightforward than farming machines due to their less frequent spawns; strategic searching is key.

Moose and boar exclusively inhabit the ruined city and forest zones. Their behavior (fleeing or attacking) depends on the player's level relative to the animal's. Higher-level animals may become aggressive even without provocation. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters with similarly leveled or higher-level animals challenging.

Animal Bait can lure wildlife, simplifying the hunting process.

Because wildlife doesn't continuously respawn during the main storyline, players must hunt them while exploring and then seek out new ones. Wildlife and machine respawning follows similar mechanics:

  • Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawning in previously visited areas.
  • Story progression can also cause nearby enemies and wildlife to respawn.

There's no guaranteed, efficient Beast Hide farming method. Consistently hunting all encountered wildlife in forest and city ruin areas usually yields sufficient hides. Beast Hides have a relatively high drop rate, so accumulating excessive quantities isn't typically a concern unless upgrading more weapons than currently equipped.
