The Last of Us Will Probably Run for 4 Seasons, HBO Exec Says

HBO's critically acclaimed The Last of Us series is slated for a four-season run, according to an executive.

Francesca Orsi, an HBO executive, hinted at a four-season arc for the popular show, clarifying that while there's no finalized plan, a four-season run is the current projection. "It's looking like this season and then two more seasons after this, and we're done," Orsi stated in an interview with Deadline.

Regarding the anticipated Season 2 premiere in April 2025, Orsi teased the introduction of compelling factions vying for survival. She highlighted the unique visual presentation of these groups, emphasizing distinct wardrobe and makeup choices that differentiate them from typical characters.

Those who missed Season 1 still have time to catch up before Season 2 premieres in April. Unlike the first season, which adapted the entirety of the first game, Season 2 will adapt The Last of Us Part II over multiple seasons, starting with a seven-episode arc that concludes at a "natural breakpoint."

Season 2 will introduce several new characters, including Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Danny Ramirez as Manny, and Tati Gabrielle as Mel. Catherine O'Hara's role remains undisclosed.

IGN's review of The Last of Us Season 1 lauded the show as "a stunning adaptation" receiving a 9/10 rating.
